About
ArtWalk
Highlights of some interesting past collaborations: ArtWalk has offered budding artists new opportunities to explore their craft, displaying high school students’ work and presenting selections from the Livermore Public Library’s Teen Film Festival at Groth Bros. In 2006, the Kid’s Art Show at the Second Street Mall let children up to age 11 participate– they could either bring in finished drawings and paintings for display or make new ones there, using supplies donated by Way Up Art & Frame.
Second Street Mall was also the site of the Diversity Fair Sidewalk Chalk Fundraiser. Just a short stroll up 3rd Street is the LAA Gallery, a local center of creativity which shared its Carnegie Park location with the Veteran’s Art Exhibit.
Often, some of the strongest art has been included in the outer areas of downtown– including the group at the Firehouse Art Studios (also hosting Las Positas College Art Club), muralists at Blacksmith Square and Beckman's Investment Securities, and fused glass art at Castle Comforts just past the Second Street Mall.
Music may be heard throughout ArtWalk from some of the best musicians in the area, who donate their talents for visitors’ enjoyment. Some of last year’s musicians included Megan Slankard, Ira Leitner, Paul Manousos, Jeff Reed, The Mundaze, Steve Suppe, Gabe Duffin, Dave MacMillan, Brian Loud, Midlife Chrysler and Charlie Murphy. The variety of performances from rockabilly to indie that took place in Flagpole Park was a contribution from LVPAC.
At past ArtWalks, visitors have also found opportunities to unwind with wine-tasting and light refreshments at such downtown favorites as Main Street Designs; Retzlaff, a Wine Boutique and John Christopher Cellars at Blacksmith Square; Beckman Investment Securities; Country Morning; Castle Comforts; It’s All About Dancing; and Art!Space Contemporary Art & Craft Gallery.
At the end of every ArtWalk, we suggest you rest your feet and find something to eat in one of our many downtown restaurants. We’d like to give a special nod to Ancestro’s and El Charro’s, both of whom were 2006 ArtWalk sponsors, specializing in great food served with a smile.
